Here are some suggestions for places to visit which are just a short drive or bus ride from Bath.
Castle Combe which is just twelve miles from Bath was once voted the prettiest village in England. No new houses have been built since the 18th century and it retains an old world charm. This makes the village popular as a location for film and television. Recently Spielberg used it for some of the scenes in War Horse.
Visitors are advised to park in the free long stay car park at the top of the hill and walk down into the village. Castle Combe is surrounded by woodland and there are several easy waymarked trails. After your walk you can enjoy a drink in one of the local pubs or cafes.
