First a confession I don’t usually like sweet things, I prefer savoury snacks and don’t take sugar in my tea. However since this week’s #Sunday stills photo challenge is “sweet” I thought I would try to see what I could manage.
My first photo comes from last Christmas. The tall Christmas tree in the galleries shopping centre in Bristol was decorated with lollipops and candy canes and the theme was used for the other decorations as well as for the decorations in several of the shops. I took the bottom two photos when I was shopping this morning. We have a local sweet shop appropriately called “sweet things” owned by a rather strange man who is a local body building champion. It is full of glass jars brimming with the sort of sweets which were around when I was young; humbugs, wine gums, rainbow drops and love hearts. The sort of shop that disappeared thirty years ago in England but is now making a comeback.
A teddy bear spotted in the window of our local sweet shop and a cookie jar.
The photo at the top where I am the subject not the photographer was taken in Berlin which I visited last Autumn. The heart is cut out from a chunk of the Berlin wall which once divided the city and shows that perhaps love can come from hate. When we visited Berlin it was the Berlin marathon and the course covered both East and West Berlin finishing at the Brandenburg gate which once separated East and West Berlin close to the new Reichstag building. It was good to feel the party atmosphere and join in the celebrations.
So much sweetness in your post, Anne! I’m glad you could share your versions (or aversion?) to sweetness 🙂 Cute pic of you surrounded by the heart in Berlin!
