We have had an Indian summer, warm weather in September and our gardens are still looking colourful. As most indoor activities are cancelled due to covid 19 we have been exploring the local area.
A couple of weeks ago, Bill and I visited Hanam where I grew up. It lies in South Gloucestershire to the east of Bristol. We walked along the river Avon from Conham Riverside Park to the Lock and Weir pub and I spotted this flower covered door.
I remember playing on the abandoned slag heaps from a former coal mine as a child but now the river has been cleaned up and new trees planted. It was good to see people swimming in the Avon and messing about in boats. Our destination Hanham lock is lock number 1 on the Kennet and Avon canal.
Interestingly this bit of the footpath which follows the river from Avonmouth to Bath forms part of the monarch’s way, a long distance footpath following the route used by Charles the second to escape his enemies after the battle of Wocester in 1651.
The walk from Conham River Park to the Lock and Weir and back took us about two hours with a stop for a drink.
Conham riverside park has a free carpark and toilets and when we visited there was a van serving coffee and cake. There are also marked trails through the nearby broadleafed woodland. Click here for a map and leaflet. it is always very popular with dog walkers.
This post will be added to Thursday doors a weekly feature run by Norman Frampton which allows bloggers from around the world to share pictures of doors.
I think we are all reaqauinting with nearby locations. and it hasn’t been so bad. Hope you enjoyed it, the photo is nice

So much of Gloucestershire that I’ve never seen. It’s such a deceptively big county. I live in the top bit.

What a feast of flowers! I wouldn’t have guessed this was the UK. I don’t know why.
