I love a blogging challenge and I am glad to be able to join this week’s Sunday stills photo challenge which is to illustrate a favourite Christmas carol or song. To be honest, I found it more difficult than I expected. I love white Christmas but we don’t have any snow yet nor could I find a red nosed reindeer pulling a sleigh or chestnuts roasting on an open fire.
This well known song dates from 1951 so is a year older than me. It was recorded by many of the great American crooners such as Bing Crosby and Perry Como. Woolworths which was our equivalent of the five and ten disappeared from our high streets a few years ago and I think candy canes are more of an American thing but I had fun trying to take some photos to fit the lyrics.
Our local high street held a small festival to turn on the Christmas lights this afternoon so I was able to get a picture of the Salvation army band and some decorations in the shops.
Here is a you tube link if you want to sing along . You should also visit #Sunday Stills to see other participants posts and maybe have fun creating your own.
“It’s Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas”

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go
Take a look in the five-and-ten
Glistening once again
With candy canes and silver lanes aglow

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Toys in ev’ry store
But the prettiest sight to see
Is the holly that will be
On your own front door
A pair of hopalong boots and a trumpet that toots
Is the wish of Barney and Ben
Dolls that will talk and will go for a walk
Is the hope of Janice and Jen
And mom and dad can hardly wait for school to start again

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go
There’s a tree in the Grand Hotel
One in the park as well
The sturdy kind that doesn’t mind the snow

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Soon the bells will start
And the thing that will make them ring
Is the carol that you sing
Right within your heart

It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Ev’rywhere you go
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas
Christmas, Christmas

I wish everyone a happy Christmas and a safe new year.
Hi Anne, nice to see your post today. I just posted this at 7 am PST and you popped this up in 30 minutes!! Not bad for a “difficult” challenge, which you nailed by the way! Love the song you chose and your images are perfect! The last image is so festive of all the Christmas linens–I would have snapped that one, too! 🙂

It is late afternoon here. I think the song is old enough to be out of copyright

I agree! After 50 years, many published works become public and copyright free.

Hello Anne, thank you for making me smile with your post. I love Christmas and the song is one of my favourites. My Mum and Dad were Bing Crosby fans and alas both have passed for over 35 years so I treasure the memories. All of your photos are cheerful and certainly put is in the Festive Mood. #weekendcoffeeshare

I had fun with the challenge. I could not find holly for the door. We tend to use pine twigs.
